Floral mitzvah to benefit Seven Acres, The Medallion

Roses for Rosh Hashanah is a rebirth of a very successful program from 30 years ago. Sponsored now by Hebrew Order of David Lodge Galil and Lodge Tikvah, Roses for Rosh Hashanah sales benefit Seven Acres and The Medallion.

An order consists of a dozen roses, wrapped with filler and greenery, ready to be placed in a vase. (Roses for Seven Acres and Medallion residents will be placed in vases.) Orders may be picked up (at Seven Acres, 6200 N. Braeswood Blvd. in the circle drive) or for a small fee, delivered within a 10-mile radius of Seven Acres. Roses ordered for a resident of Seven Acres or The Medallion will be delivered in a vase.

After reading an article in the Jewish Herald-Voice about this High Holy Days project, Marilyn Hassid recalled when she first began working at the JCC in 1983. She emailed HOD: “… [Max] Goldfield, z”l, was our/my go-to printer for all brochures, fliers, stationery, and anything else that required design and printing. … Working with him was not just about the job. It was a time to visit, catch up on community…

“If I close my eyes, I can see Mr. Goldfield, z”l, in front of me.

“He knew my folks, and they of course knew him.

“I remember [Max] Goldfield’s Roses for Rosh Hashanah initiative, and the article in the JHV struck a chord.” Hassid wrote. “I’ll be placing an order but wanted to reach out to you directly to let you know how personal this is for me.”

Some members of the community have offered to place an order for a resident who does not have family in the Houston area. A card will show the gift comes from an anonymous admirer.

Roses orders may be placed at hodgalil.org/Store or email Mark@kjis.com for more information.

NO emails after 9-4-21 - only in person pick up at location.
