Dayan Gross is the new regional director of the Anti-Defamation League’s Southwest Region. He has been a leader in the Cleveland Jewish community and served as assistant vice president for Planning & Allocations at the Jewish Federation of Cleveland.
A dedicated bridge builder, Gross is a strategic thinker and planner, who has been deeply involved in community and donor relations. He will bring charisma, experience and leadership to ADL, which he joins at a critical time. Dayan is motivated to join the ADL team and help lead this region towards fostering respect and inclusion for all; as anti-Semitism, bigotry and bullying manifest themselves in new and alarming ways.
Gross is a public affairs veteran and community activist, having managed complex and sensitive community relations issues for nearly two decades. He has devoted his career to developing and executing effective organization-wide strategies to advance the mission of pursuing a just society, protecting the rights of members of the Jewish community and all community members.
Before coming to the United States in 2001 from South Africa, Dayan headed up a regional council of an organization which protected the civil rights of Jewish people in South Africa, organized a variety of services to the Jewish community to enrich and maintain Jewish life, and was involved in development and welfare activities that improved the lives of the country’s disadvantaged communities. He earned his M.A. at Brandeis University in advocacy and fundraising, and his B.A. at Rhodes University in political science and industrial sociology. Dayan was a well-known anti-apartheid activist, member of the African National Congress, and head of the South African Union of Jewish Students at Rhodes University. Dayan and his wife Ilana have two children.
