HOD UPDATE from WB Alan L, TODAY :
Gentlemen, as you know, I have been working for the last two years helping put together Houston’s return to the Maccabi games. Some of you might remember the last time we hosted in 2012.
It probably goes without saying that these are different times that we are living in today. From our perspective, the children that are coming into town are all of our children or our grandchildren and we need to make sure that they have a fun and safe time. If the games were being held in another city we would hope and trust that the community there would step up for our children in the same way.
To that end, and while Maccabi and the J have the full support of HPD, Harris County Sheriffs office and multiple other law enforcement agencies we still need volunteers to step up for several areas.
Among them include:
We need volunteers to ride the air conditioned bus from the J to Hobby/IAH and back.
We need volunteers at the various venues to check credentials in 3 - 4 hour shifts.
To further set expectations, outdoor venues will have tents you can be under, you are welcome to bring a chair and anything else generally for your comfort, the large majority of the events are held in the morning to help all of us avoid the heat.
Call a friend that you have been meaning to catch up with and sign up together.

All volunteers must attend ONE mandatory orientation, in room 202 at the Evelyn Rubenstein JCC, 5601 S. Braeswood Blvd., 77096.
Future orientations are scheduled for:
Sunday, July 21 at 10:00 AM
Wednesday, July 31 at 6:00 PM
* * * HOD plans on attending Sunday 7-21-2024 at 10:00 am but if that does not work for you please make sure that you attend the last orientation 7/31/2024 at 6:00 PM.
Apparently the orientation session should take just over ONE hour.
Let the JCC know you're coming by registering in advance and submit questions ahead of time at this link!
Ready to choose your volunteer shifts? Registered volunteers can sign-up for shifts at this link if you have not already. You can search by venue or sport to find the best spot!
