We will gather for drinks at 6:30 pm, our Chavershaft, Open Lodge Meeting, and Table Lodge will be held at the ERJCC Thursday, March 19 at 6:30 pm
Chavershaft will be followed by an informal meeting (with candle lighting) and speaker table lodge a light dinner of bagels, cream cheese, lox, and tuna fish donated by The Mitzvah Man, Scottie Gardner.
Spouses, girlfriends, potential new members and guests are invited to attend the Table Lodge & dinner (around 8:00 pm), please include them in your RSVP.
Our Speaker for the Table Lodge is Marc Cohen from The Alexander Jewish Family Service of Houston. Marc will be sharing with us The Holocaust Survivor's Program at the AJFS.
The remaining Holocaust Survivors in our community are aging and in need of home-care to be able to stay in their residence. For this population, it is particularly important to avoid institutionalization which may re-traumatize a survivor, as they often relive memories from the past.
Alexander Jewish Family Service maintains two case managers who specialize in working with survivors. They have provided intensive case management, help in qualifying for reparations, home visits, problem solving, and become like "family" to this population.
As the remaining survivors age, Alexander JFS is honored to administer a home-care grant from the Conference on Material Claims Against Nazi Germany. This allows the agency precious resources to give dignity in the final years of a survivor's life.
Dress code is business casual, collared shirts, no ties, no coats.
